New Tunes/Nigella…

June 22, 2010

Just had a great writing session in our rehearsal room in Shoreditch. Very productive, getting 5 songs pretty much finished.

They are: Everything is Blue, Sex In A Citadel, About My Friend and two others without names yet! One of these we wrote around a riff i’d had bubbling away at the back of my brain for months. Sounds a bit Chris Isaak. Quite dark and very simple, exciting stuff.

The next gig is a low key solo show, just me with my guitar, Nigella. It’s with Tom Williams and the Boat and a couple of other excellent supports. It’s at the very little Betsey Trotwood on the 1st July, in Farringdon so there’ll  be a great atmosphere, making for a sweeet show. So come!!! Keep an ear out for new tunes at this one….

Then it’s Lounge on the Farm, and we can’t wait! If you’re there, come and say hello and we can party. it’s going to be excellent, plus there’s some amazing bands playing too-rather like the Hop Farm Festival which i’m going to in only a few days…i’m counting down the days! PLaying, there’s Ray Davies, Seasick Steve, and some guy called Bob.

Bye

Cloudy/Rain/Sun

March 26, 2010

Just finished a gig which was being filmed for Taken TV in Strongrooms, Shoreditch. Was a good one, and we got given drinks tokens for that Buffalo trace Bourbon whiskey which happens to be my favourite, so i was happy. The video from the night should be up on youtube soon and i’ll post a link on here when it’s available.

I’ve added a couple of solo acoustic shows, one in Gravesend and one in Brighton, so if you’re around, come and have a watch-the details are on our myspace…

Festival wise we’ve just confirmed with two festivals:

Sellindge Festival

Lounge on the Farm

Both are really great festivals and i hope to see you all there!

Tomorrow Tom Williams (of the Boat) is playing just down the road from me in Brighton, so I’m off there and am looking forward to it. Went into snooper’s paradise in Brighton today. If you’ve never been before, go, because i can’t begin to explain how much i love that place-i could have bought everthing in there, but alas bought nothing as i am poor. Mind you there was a lovely barometer in there for £7 which i might go back for tomorrow if it’s still there. Yes i think i will. I’ll just go hungry for the rest of the week!

Old Blue Arthur

March 11, 2010

Had a great night on tuesday in Shoreditch, supporting Tom Williams and the boat at their launch party for their debut single, ‘Concentrate’. They were so tight and got a great reaction from the crowd, who were all out in force to support him. We played afterwards and, it seemed, made a few fans as there was some pretty good dancing going down.

Went to a fantastic studio space/warehouse right next to the Old Blue Last after soundcheck. It’s run by ‘Arthur and Albert‘ and they’ve got some interesting things planned for the space, including magazines amongst other things. They’ve a lovely dog there called ‘Blossom’ too.

Never considered Shoreditch much of a Chicken shop kind of place, but there’s one right by Old Street station that was five star. Recommended.

Jacqui Sadler has some great photos up on her flickr page. There’s some of us at Folkestone Quarterhouse, and at the Old Blue Last for Tom’s single launch. Go and check them out if you fancy a look…

Happy Birthday BBC Kent Introducing!/Triangular Snacks

March 8, 2010

Afternoon,

On Friday we played a set at Folkestone’s Quarterhouse, for BBC Kent Introducing‘s 2nd Birthday. Definately our best gig of 2010 so far! The crowd were excellent and really enthusiastic; we had some sort of moshing and chanting going on. It was brilliant, and packed to the rafters. As relative newcomers to the Kent scene, we were all surprised at the reaction we got, and it is testament to the crowd’s open-mindedness that we went down so well. Roll on BBC Kent Introducing’s 2nd Birthday! Cheers to Jacob Rikard for playing us on his show and giving us a chance to play there.

Unfortunately we had to get back home, which was a major trek, so we missed out on seeing the bands on after us. Caught a glimpse of local band ‘Elephants’, and they seemed to really smash it too. Tom Williams and the boat were headlining, and although we couldn’t stay until his set, we did see him do an acoustic performance in an upstairs bar. No p.a no amps no nothing-but it was excellent. We’re playing with Tom at the Old Blue Last this Tuesday for his single release party, come on down and have a dance, it’s free after all. The facebook event is here.

There are interviews with all the bands and some of their songs (including us; Jumbo Jet and Sister On The Stairs) on BBC Kent Introducing’s Iplayer. Here is the link.

We met Legendary DJ Dave Cash and his lovely wife Sara that night too; a fascinating couple with some amazing stories to tell. Ben was enchanted, and so was I. He seemed to really like our set too, which was a bonus!

On the way back, we stopped off in a service station. In the shop they had ‘TEST SANDWICHES-NOT FOR SALE’. Naturally we were perplexed by this and asked if we could just have one, seeing as you can’t buy them. Turns out they are for testing the temperature of the fridge they’re stored in. Bizarre. Thermometer maybe? No? I bought Doritos. I also bought Doritos the day after in Camberwell, after a night at ‘Funky Monkey’ with Mahood.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who watched our set and danced. I for one can’t wait to play in Folkestone again!
